Meet the Clinicians
Dawn Mendoza PMHNP-BC
Dawn is a compassionate and experienced Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 25 years of nursing experience in a wide range of acute care settings, including the emergency room. For more than a decade, she has focused her career on behavioral health, working across multiple levels of care including outpatient voluntary services, emergency departments, an inpatient psychiatric unit, and substance use treatment and recovery programs where clients withdrew from opiates, alcohol, and occasionally benzodiazepines.
She also served as part of a PACT (Proactive Assertive Community Treatment) team, delivering intensive, community-based support to individuals with serious and persistent mental illness. Dawn’s clinical approach is individualized, person-centered, evidence-based, and holistic, with a strong emphasis on using an integrated model of care, especially for clients with co-occurring disorders.
Her passion for treating substance use disorders (including opiate use disorder), trauma, mood disorders, PTSD, and psychosis is deeply rooted in both professional expertise and personal lived experience. With her lived experience and having seen the impact of addiction within her own family, Dawn brings empathy, insight, and authenticity to her work. She is a strong advocate for harm reduction and utilizes a range of treatment modalities, including medication management when appropriate, to help individuals move toward recovery and wellness.
Dawn is also committed to serving marginalized and underserved populations. Outside of her professional role, she enjoys crafting, cooking, and spending time with her four children, grandchild, friends, and two dogs. She also dedicates time to a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting people affected by addiction, homelessness, domestic violence, and sex trafficking. She looks forward to working with you.
